Who We Are
Our Mission

Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua S.A. (PSML) has, among other missions, the responsibility to manage the most important natural and cultural values located in the area of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra and in Queluz: the Park and Palace of Pena, the Gardens and the Palace of Monserrate, the Moorish Castle, the Convent of the Capuchos, the Garden and Chalet of the Countess of Edla and, since 2012, the National Palaces of Sintra and Queluz and the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art based at the historic Gardens of Queluz.

The management of these properties involves their restoration, requalification, revitalisation, conservation, research, publicity and operation, opening them to public fruition and enhancing their touristic valour.

Constitution of Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua, S.A.

Decree law nº 215/2000, of September 2.
Establishes the state-owned company, of exclusively public capitals, Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua, S.A. (PSML).

Decree law nº 292 /2007, of August 21
Alters the shareholder composition and the board of directors and submits the management of the Palace of Pena to the Company.

Decree law nº 205/2012, of August 31
Makes a second amendment to Decree-Law n. º 215/2000 of September 2, again altering the shareholder structure and delivers the management of the National Palaces of Sintra and Queluz and the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, based in Queluz, to the company. Since the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art is a public service that was being managed by the Alter Real Foundation, the Decree-Law nº 205/2012 also changed the Decree-Law nº 48/2007 of February 27. The Decree-Law nº 109/2013, of August 1, abolished the Alter Real Foundation and delegated to Companhia das Lezírias, SA the competences regarding the preservation of the genetic heritage of the breeds Lusitano, Sorraia and Garrano. The same Decree-Law also transferred to Parques de Sintra the public service concerning the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art.
