Act of Abdication.
Pedro by the Grace of God, King of Portugal and the Algarves, on this side and beyond the sea in Africa, Lord of Guinea, of Conquest, Navigation, and Commerce of Ethiopia, Arabia, Persia, and India, &. I do here make it known to all of My Portuguese Subjects, that as incompatible with the interests of the Empire of Brazil and the Kingdom of Portugal, that I continue as King of Portugal, Algarves, and its Domains, and wishing to Salute those same Kingdoms as is My Duty: It is through the good of My own Word and of my free will to Abdicate, and to Cede all the indisputable and unalienable Rights that I Have to the Crown of the Portuguese Monarchy and the Sovereignty of those same Kingdoms, in My Person to my loved, cherished and dear Daughter, the Princess of Grão Pará Maria da Glória, that She serve as Your Regent Queen to the independent Government of this Empire, and by its Constitution, that I Did Deem for the good to Decree, Given and Order the searing by My Letter of Law of the twenty-ninth of April of this same year (…) the Ties of Marriage that are to bind with My much Loved and Cherished Brother, Prince Miguel…
