Proclamation of Independence.
This painting fantastically portrays the Proclamation of Independence (on 7th September 1822). The Ipiranga Cry is the name given to the expression “Independence or Death!”, proclaimed by Regent Prince Pedro, in front of his escort, reacting to a letter with orders to return to Portugal and surrender to the king and the Courts of Lisbon.
