…now, however, it is our duty to mention the Decree, by which His Majesty confides the Government of the Kingdom of Brazil to HRH the Royal Prince, Showing by this feat not only the High Concept, which deserves the Singular Virtues of this Worthy Heir, but also the Paternal Unveiling, that we all owe due to Such a Provident Sovereign. The same Decree explains such noble sentiments in a manner so far superior to the rough expressions of our language.
DECREE
Being indispensable to foresee for the government and the administration of this Kingdom of Brazil, from which I Do Depart with such vivid sentiments of yearning, Returning to Portugal, out of the demands of the current Political circumstances, enunciated in the Decree of seventh March of this same year: And Having I in consideration not only the reasons of public utility and interest, but also the particular consideration, that My loyal Subjects of Brazil do so deserve, for which I do install and I Establish the Government, that shall rule in My absence, and to the extent the Constitution does not reach, in a convenient means for the present state of affairs, and the Political category to which this Country was raised and capable of consolidating the public and private prosperity: I Deem for the better and Take Due Pleasure in Encharging the general Government, and the entire administration of all of the Kingdom of Brazil to My much Loved and Cherished Son, Pedro de Alcantara, Royal Prince of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves, Appointing him the Regent and My acting representative (…)
