News of the arrival of Leopoldine, Archduchess of Austria and her marriage to Prince Pedro, published in no. 34 of the Lisbon Gazette, 9 February, Monday edition:

UNITED KINGDOM OF PORTUGAL, BRAZIL, AND THE ALGARVES.

Rio de Janeiro, 8 November.

Wednesday, 5th of the current morning and receiving the most grateful news of having spotted the Ships and Frigate, that composed the Fleet that Carried HRH her most Excellence Lady the Royal Princess of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarves, immediately filled all Portuguese with joy and happiness and the hills overlooking this City did immediately begin to cover with an immensity of people, who, with their eyes affixed on the horizon, did impatiently await the arrival of the blessed Ship(…) At two and a half hours, Their Majesties and Royal Highnesses did duly arrive at the Royal Chapel, with all the mentioned accompaniment. There, they were received by his Excellency the Bishop Senior Chaplain, in full religious regalia, and by the Council Senate. Having made the Prayer, they then did proceed into the Main Chapel. His Excellency the Bishop Senior Chaplain did proffer the nuptial blessing that was then followed by a Te Deum, accompanied by most excellent Music, composed by the insigne Marcos Portugal, performed by the Musicians of the Royal Chamber and Chapel; which did all end at four and a half hours, before then sounding the salutes of the Forts and the Squadron.
