The change in the capital to Brazil led to exponential growth in the colony through the adoption of a series of measures including the opening of Brazilian ports to international trade and the restructuring of its judicial system, the development of the press, the founding of the Bank of Brazil, the opening of the first schools and the establishing of the Botanical Garden and the Royal Library.
