General Junot, governor-general of Portugal, orders the carrying out of works at the Palace of Queluz in the expectation of hosting Emperor Napoleon
The news of works at the Palace of Queluz was published in the Supplement to no. 16 of the Lisbon Gazette, 22 April 1808, Friday edition:
His most Illustrious and Excellent Duke of Abrantes ordered the undertaking of every disposition appropriate for the Palace of Queluz (that stands some two leagues from Lisbon) to complete the improvements just as soon as possible so as to be ready to receive the Great Napoleon in the case of His Excellency being able to honour this country with his presence: the works specified are progressing with the greatest of activity so that the work shall be all but completed and the Palace adorned and fitted with furniture.
