Pastel painting by his great aunt, Princess Maria Francisca Benedita, during the period when the Royal Family lived permanently in the Palace of Queluz, until the departure for Brazil in 1807.

Prince Pedro catches roundworms
Letter from Carlota Joaquina to her husband King João VI, sent from Queluz on 15 April 1804:

Pedro was wracked with abdominal pains after having spent the night with a lot of coughing and the physicians resolved not to purge him as he still had a good appetite,… suspecting that he has roundworms.
